Hotel Diablo
The Return To Psycho, California

The name “Hotel Diablo”, quite baffled me at first, but quickly it dawned to me that I was confusing them with the similarly named “almost supergroup” Circus Diablo, that featured, members of The Cult and Almighty among others. Funnily enough, the rhythm section of HD, is bassist Mike Duda and drummer Mike Dupke, both currently with WASP, while singer Rick Stitch and guitarist Alex Grossi, both musicians with former band memberships around LA, were recently seen making the rounds with Adler’s Appetite, the offshoot band, of one time GNR drummer, S. Adler. The Guns N’ Roses connections, don’t end here however, as former GNR guitarist Gilby Clarke, contributed his expertise as a producer as well as his studio to.
The result, is a great sounding, modern flavored, rock album, that’s not bad, by any means and genuinely means business, but what it sorely lacks is a stand out, single, that would really, put it in the charts. It takes Nickelback and 30 Seconds To Mars and turns them to 11 and even includes a cover of the dreaded Oasis (on “Wonderwall”) but that doesn’t mean J$#KS$#T to me. How bada$$, can a p00fy, beatles rip-off, sound? The answer is not much!
There are also 2 alternative mixes to two of the songs on the album, that are way more acoustically mixed, stripping away vast layers of guitars.
Hotel Diablo, offers some decent alt.rock/post grunge, generic American pop/rock, but I am not entirely sure, how much that would appeal to classic rock fans. And anyway the album is nothing, that would set the world on fire I guess. Give them a chance, you may like them. You be the judge!
