Highlord is an Italian band that has been going on since the mid-90s, after changing their name from Avatar and their singer to their current one, Andrea Marchisio, releasing albums every couple of years or so (this one is their 8th). They play a power metal style that’s frozen to what most Italian bands sounded in the early 90s and unfortunately they also seem to have been stuck to that era, production wise, with keyboards swamping the sound and weak sounding drums…
Andrea, seems to have improved a lot since back in the day, but sometimes I wonder if that’s due to practice or correction… but at any rate his performances are the least of problems on the album, in fact they’re not a problem at all… the drum sound is the main reason that drags the album down several notches and the way keyboards are quite dominant, doesn’t help much the by the numbers, but fairly OK power metal – done in the Italian way…
If you’re a fan of the era and the style, you might enjoy this, but there are several bands that did it much better back in the day and still are doing it…
