Helfir
Still Bleeding
My Kingdom Music
2015
Helfir is a new music project, which serves as a “shelter” for the dark & atmospheric ideas of Luca Mazzotta (NID). “Still Bleeding” can easily be regarded (or is it?) Luca’s debut solo album too. Everything here has been played & arranged by Luca himself apart from the drums on five tracks which were played by the drummers Antonio Fanizza (tracks 1, 2, 3 & 6) & Francesco Politi (track 5).
Luca is exploring the gloomy, melancholic and moody side of himself on this album. His love for the dim & atmospheric side of Anathema, Katatonia, Antimatter, Alternative4 and Porcupine Tree is obvious. The result is enthralling as well. Very nice moody atmospheric music is embellished with acoustic, melancholic guitars and “smooth” vocals. At times Luca explores his “metal metallic” side too and things get a tad heavier too. The production is excellent as well… a perfect fit for this kind of music.
Certainly, such kinds of albums are better to be “experienced” during the Fall or the Winter… when the inner darkness meets the outside one! All the tracks here are well-crafted and baptized into a “genuine” melancholic duskiness. Assuredly, the fans of the aforementioned bands will fancy “Still Bleeding” and they will remember the “atmospheric moments” of their beloved acts. I’d like to see Helfir becoming a “real band” and going even further. Luca is a talented guy and should reconsider his priorities with this project. After all, we all need bands that can touch the darker side of ours… and Helfir is one of them. Let’s hope this won’t be a “one-album” thing…
