Those of you who fancy avant-jazz, jazz-fusion & experimental music are already aware of the Indonesian keyboardist Dwiki Dharmawan. We presented his previous album “So Far So Close” here in 2015, so the time has come to present his new opus “Pasar Klewer”. For those who don’t happen to know Dwiki, I must say that apart from a distinctive keyboard player, he’s also a composer, producer, peace activist and cultural icon.

On this album, Dwiki has by his side Yaron Stavi on upright bass, Asaf Sirkis on drums, udu clay percussion & konakol singing, Mark Wingfield on guitar, Nicolas Meier on glissentar, Gilad Atzmon on clarinet, Boris Savoldelli on vocals, Aris Daryono on vocals, gamalan percussion, kendang percussion, rebab 3-strings violin, Peni Candra Rini on vocals and Gamelan Jess Jegog led by I Nyoman Wydod on gamelan orchestra. Well, with so many renowned musicians on the roster, it’s hard to go wrong, right?! The performances are all amazing and this is where the word “improvisation” can be experienced in full!

The album was recorded in London, at EastCote Studio by Phil Bagenal, mixed and mastered by Mark Wingfield at Heron Island Studio, Cambridgeshire, England and produced by Leonardo Pavkovic and Dwiki Dharmawan. The production is full & super clear.

Were I to make a comparison between “So Far So Close” and “Pasar Klewer”, I’d say that the new album is more artistic, experimental, impulsive, mature and motivating. Those who are into this kind of music will revel in it, in any case…
