La Paz is one of Doogie White’s earliest band efforts (they were formed in the mid-80s) that however didn’t properly debut until 2012 and they are now releasing their “third” album. Doogie and Chic McSherry, the band’s long time guitarist, are once again responsible for the songs and it’s pretty much business as usual, which means some Heep, some Purple, some ‘Snake, some latter day Rainbow, ya know the drill…

There are a number of nice songs on offer like: “Heart of Stone”, “Retribution Blues”, the more haunting “Daughter of Time” or the more energetic “The Prize”, with the album really happening in the “middle”. “Faith Hope and Love” is more relaxed but has some cool harmonica going on, that gives it a different character. “Throw Me to the Wolves” is dynamic but simple, while “Miss Dynamite” is a little by the numbers, but hey, it has got gusto… lastly “Book of Shadows” puts to shame Zakk’s both volumes, in less than seven minutes… without even breaking a sweat.

Without being a must, “Shut Up and Rawk” is good rocking fun and if you like Doogie’s output in recent years it will not disappoint (especially the latter parts of it)…
