Dirty Thrills is a blues/sleaze/old-school hard rock quartet from London, England. Their first self-titled attempt is a tight one, but unfortunately nothing to write home about.

While there’s nothing wrong with “Dirty Thrills”, I think they overdo it sometimes. For example, singer Louis James (son of ex-Moody Blues singer Nicky James) uses that old and kinda worn out glam rock way of singing that, to my ears, sounds a little tiring. In general, it appears that Dirty Thrills is the sort of band who identifies themselves by the music they play. Even when putting the lyrics of Rock n Roll aside, the whole album has an old-school rock-star lifestyle vibe.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that they limit themselves only to the audiences who are already fans of that genre. I’m not particularly keen of that genre, but I had no problem listening to “Dirty Thrills” to its entirety. All in all, it’s a well-crafted record with some tight guitar riffs and the backbone of a somewhat groovy rhythm section. Having said that though, I wouldn’t exactly pass this album on to any of my friends.
