Not entirely content with retirement in Hell, the original horror-daddies, from Italy, that have been celebrating the horned one, since – f@#k knows, forever, the middle 70s I guess?!, long before all these modern pretenders and “70s revivalists” thought it was cool, to don a cloak and, hold a dagger and pretend to be Alice Cooper or BOC, all over again, just a big scarier... and with “more occult lyrics” just switched a drummer, and decided to come back from the land of the dead, to show everybody how it’s done!

“Revived” is a very modern tune in the vein of the more modern songs on the later releases like “Humanomalies”, “Panic” and “Seven Seals”, but it has a hypnotic heavy riff and a really pissed of Steve Sylvester and it’s just so cool to hear some DSS after so long that it sort of brings tears to your eyes just thinking about it… even – if fanatics – already had purchased the proceeding EP (so it’s not really the first thing they’ll have heard)! Still it’s great evil fun!

“Crimson Shine” has this more melodic approach about it, but it’s basically, quite interesting… It has some female vocals and the guitars and keyboards just intertwine throughout it, yet in a way that is anything but chaotic. It’s a very beautiful song, with I’d dare say a good vibe but even a bit of a classic metal style not a million miles away from the maidens of this world, in their more melodic phase (7th Sson etc.).

“The Darkest Night” is a song that people, that have purchased the EP might be familiar with, and it’s a fast, dark, riffy and sickening song that supposedly ended up in some movie that SS, starred in?! It’s pretty #$@#$@#$# cool actually!

“Dionysus” begins with some ethereal keyboards, and is much softer, a tribute and a hymn to the ancient Greek god of Wine and Merriment! Female vocals and guitars take over it and thicken it up to a quite ecstatic conclusion!

“Eaters” is a bit of those “more” modern numbers, with all it’s weird elements, but it has some weird shit going on... and with a title like that I suppose it can’t have anything else to do but with cannibalism! He, he! Yum,yum!

“Star in Sight” is a much more temperate song, but not a ballad by any means, it’s a bit of an elegy, a weird and melancholic piece… That’s really great.

“Ogre’s Lullaby” is a weird – as HELL piece, complete with crying babies and all. And with “Steve” assuming and “Ogre’s” voice, a really demented, and tormented, throaty delivery that’s not really all that pleasant to the ears.... it’s quite “Sick”, but in all one of the least interesting “songs” on the album as it hardly has any musicality to it, with its sparse guitar, themes and all.

“Santa Muerte” is on with the weird numbers, based on a funky repetitive riff, and it even sounds like a bad bad, KISS disco number done, well, DSS style... Oh wait. That was, DSS’s style all along I guess! Haha!

“The Devil’s Graal” is another hybrid song, as it has some very slow and melodic portions that are traded off for some quite fast and demented ones! Another thing worth mentioning is the beautiful solos that make their presence felt – not only on this song – but during several, guitars on this album, are generally – given quite an active and protagonist role quite often. I totally love that the voice on the song “breaks” and it’s not “fixed” towards the end, because it’s meant to be that way – to show the torment... and all, I suppose, it manages to pass the sentiment, sometimes, it’s the flaws of the performer, that make the performance, cool. (Well not all the times though…)

“The Song of Adoration” is a long winded song about what else... “adoration” – love – entwinement… with powerful imagery and if I am not mistaken – even sampling of some of the eyes wide shut soundtrack portions – from the masked ball scene, or at least, trying to mock them.

“Precognition” is another fast and modern sounding song and it’s quite metallic sounding too, but with a decidedly more “modern style” and hence it’s kinda difficult to really put my finger on it. Hehe. It even has the weirdest solo one could expect, that’s quite Queen inspired and then it just goes on as before! WTF! Can’t decide if I like it too much or not!

“Bad Luck” is the final song on the album and is a lot more rock n’ roll – silly really, but it has some catchy hook, no matter how silly, so I can’t really give a @#$#@ about it’s silly lyrics! Hahaha!

All in all, I was quite pissed off, when Death SS, called it a day, allegedly with “The Seventh Seal” which I also thought to be a very average album, below par, really, of their most recent output – yes even “Humanomalies” that many people tend to disown, so you can’t believe how happy I was when I heard about this “Resurrection”!

Now having heard the album, I can say, that it may be a little uneven, or maybe, I dunno, It’s just that I feel that the songs are a little disconnected, from one another – there’s no cohesion and such flow as in other albums, there’s slightly less I guess, but still most of the songs themselves are pretty cool, with only a few, being duds. So, I suppose it’s a most font return to the fold, of the dear “neighbors” and please don’t go away, any time soon!!!
