The 69 Eyes
X
Nuclear Blast
2012
Entering, auspiciously, their 20th year of existence… The 69 Eyes are more concentrated than before, knowing exactly how to play the game and where to focus mostly. Avoiding mistakes of the past and by giving quick sneaky looks at their previous albums that made an impact like: “Blessed Be” & “Paris Kills”, while taking good care of their sound… The 69 Eyes are on the top of gothic rock music, leading the way.
Without having lost their hard rock vibe, their dark side and their atmospheric parts… they’re once more delivering straightforward catchy moody tunes that are creating a gloomy sensation. For some bands it seems very easy to have good hooks, rockin’ guitars in consort with a dim atmosphere… but take my word for it… it’s not as easy as it seems. Perhaps, “X”, which represents the 10th studio work of the band in Latin numbers, has the best production the band had ever had. Responsible for that is the Swedish team On The Verge that produced the album and Stefan Boman (Kent, The Hellacopters, Backyard Babies) who mixed it.
The first single is “Red”, which I’m sure most of you have already seen/heard so far. The second single is “Borderline”, a wonderfully moody laid-back song. Were I to choose another track for a single… then it would have been “If You Love Me the Morning After” with no second thoughts. The 69 Eyes, after the departure of certain major rivals, seem to be playing their game without difficulty, tension or angst… knowing that they are the last of the Mohicans. They are successful, they enjoy what they have, accomplished so far and they know how to make things right. The fans of the band will dig this album… as well as the newer ones who will enter the band’s dominion… they will be more than pleased…
