Independently funded charity Rock & Metal tour Headbangers Balls launched their 2014 crowdsource project on Saturday 24th May, aiming to raise the funds required to finance the tour. The project featured a 47 track compilation album featuring bands from this years tour, with additional exclusive rewards donated by the bands themselves, including many one off, unique opportunities to own a part of the band’s history.
From the launch at 8pm, the pledges flooded in from fans in the UK and Worldwide, and the target was reached by 11pm. By the end of the weekend, the target had exceeded 200% of the original goal, generating income going directly to the project’s partner charity Teenage Cancer Trust.
Founder Andy Pilkington said: “We’ve been absolutely blown away by the fan response to our project. We knew we had some very appealing rewards on offer from our bands alongside the Compilation Album, and have always been confident of hitting our goal within the 45 day time frame, but to meet and exceed our goal almost instantly has proved to us that not only is the metal scene alive and kicking, but that fans and bands alike truly care about giving something back”.
With the essential funding in place, the team are now focusing on the 7 live dates coming up at the end of the year, taking in London, Birmingham, Gloucester and Manchester, featuring some of the most exciting names in UK heavy music right now such as Onslaught, Savage Messiah, Reign of Fury, Beholder, Bull-Riff Stampede and Fleshrot.
Andy continues: “Our aim now is to sell out these shows with the support of our fans, and put our tour firmly on the festival map in the coming years. The buzz around what we’re doing in our second year has been immense”.
