Venezuelan-born progressive music innovator Felix Martin has announced the release of new album “Caracas” on April 12th, 2019, and unveiled the first video from the LP.
Check out new video for “La Vaca Mariposa (El Becerrito)” below.
Felix Martin is an ambidextrous Venezuelan musician pioneering a new style of playing the electric guitar. With his self-designed 14 and 16-string guitars, Felix emulates playing two instruments as if they were one, creating a completely new sound of his own.
“Caracas” is a compilation of traditional Venezuelan songs and styles, fused with Felix’s unique blend of progressive metal and Latin music. A kaleidoscope of musical ideas and concepts delivered with an instrumental approach, Felix and his band promise to achieve even greater notoriety in the progressive music community with this stunning release.
On the musical inspiration behind “Caracas”, Felix commented: “There are many sounds in Venezuelan / Latin music that can be easily fit into the progressive metal world, both styles make a lot of sense together. Learning traditional songs as a teenager taught me how to play the guitar using the tapping technique, so I wanted to go back to my roots and transform these songs into my current musical style”.
“Caracas” reflects on Venezuelan music, culture and the protests against the governing dictatorship. Now based in Los Angeles, Felix Martin is still an active protester against the Venezuelan government and uses progressive music as his form of expression.
Felix continues: “I started making this album in 2017 during the bloody protests in Venezuela. After I attended the protests and started touring again, I wanted to make something valuable to give my people hope, and export our great music for people who are not familiar with Latin music”.
Musicians featured on Felix Martin are Victor Carracedo on drums and Javier Sepulveda on bass, and it was mixed and mastered by Adam Bentley of Arch Echo. All Berklee graduates including Felix, these top musicians challenge the concepts and ideas of traditional music as they continue to blur the defined genre lines.
