Darkthrone to release new album “Arctic Thunder” on October 14th 2016

Norwegian duo, Darkthrone, has announced its new album, “Arctic Thunder”, to be released on October 14th, 2016 via Peaceville.

“Arctic Thunder” marks the band's first new studio material since 2013's triumphant “The Underground Resistance”, its most successful release in recent years.

An eclectic mix of free-spirited '80s fueled blackened heavy metal, all executed in Darkthrone's trademark raw and organic style, “Arctic Thunder” was recorded and produced by the band themselves, with the sessions conducted at Darkthrone's old rehearsal unit, “The Bomb Shelter”, which was originally used during 1988-1990. Mastering is once again handled by Jack Control at Enormous Door.

With themes based around hate, contempt, and the inner mind and soul, and with the notable presence of Nocturno Culto on vocal duties across all songs for the first time in recent years, “Arctic Thunder” retains a grim atmosphere throughout the album's eight tracks.

Fenriz had this to say about the title and artwork:
“Hi folks, it's time to talk a bit about our new album - and as I don't like to talk or write about music much I can say that it is more serious and primitive than usual. Vocals are only done by Ted as I thought this would create a more solemn/introvert atmosphere. The album is called "Arctic Thunder" because it is my fave bandname (old mega-obscure Norwegian band from the 80s that I asked the permission from to use as an album title). Meanwhile here is the cover, it is from the personal camping archives from a trip some years ago to Spålsberget in Nordmarka. It has the usual spruce-tree skyline and also a bonfire - there will be another limited colour version with orange logo and title, because that was MY favourite colour, but the usual release looks like this in silver - as this was Ted's favourite version”.
