Stoneghost are a new metal band from the UK. Blomley, South East, London. Metal, as some would define, the “groovy” stuff that Pantera influenced band’s sound-like, mixing slight hardcore/extreme influences and in their case, a pretty capable guitar player in Andrew Matthews who excels in both grooving along with his rhythm buddies Cris (D) and Jamie (B) but also laying down some tasty leads, when the songs allow.
While it’s admittable that they do what they do, really well, the pseudo-macho, beard & tat(too) neo-metal, which isn’t really new, but has been going around in one form or another for years, is really becoming so commonplace and tiring that few bands, really will manage to survive it once it per-mutates to a “new” slightly updated style. Stoneghost, actually, might be able to do so, as their performances sound, passionate and impressive enough and with their strong guitar melodies, they manage to differentiate themselves a bit from the mass of faceless, almost interchangeable agro-bands…
Thankfully they also don’t fall in the “trap” of having poofy, pop vocals during the choruses, they might mellow down a bit from the extremely neo-thrashy/HC style but they never become wimpy. Which is a good thing... in my book. Overall worth checking out if you’re into groovy shit…
