Punky Meadows?! The “Angel” guy?! Well after DiMino apparently another Angel alumnus comes out of retirement (actually after he retired for good in 2005, after operating a tanning salon for many years after leaving the music industry… and if you’re not confused so far, well congrats)…

Apparently Punky has written a lot of songs while he was “retired” many with his friend and rhythm guitarist for this new band, Danny Farrow. Felix Robinson the second bassist of Angel is providing the grooves and Chandler Mogel (Outloud and several other projects) the lead vocals, with the band rounded by Bob Pantella (Monster Magnet) on drums, and Charlie Calv on keyboards.

Meadows hasn’t released anything all this time and obvious the title of the album is a “nod” to his all band… music wise, there are quite a few differences, but some passing similarities as well. Well Meadows style is pretty much a constant, but the music, while “70s” inspired hard rock, is somewhat heavier. Mogel for one is “thicker” sounding than the airy 70s DiMino and he still has a more boyish voice that he tries to make sound more mature and he somewhat manages to coarse into doing just that, but certain phrases tend to stick out somewhat sorely (ie “Breathless and Jaded”)… while he’s able to morph into several different vocalists (ie I thought it wasn’t him singing the softer “Leaving Tonight”), I doubt he has “one” characteristic style.

The first few songs on this 15-track album, probably about half of them – up to “Home Wrecker”, are the “good un’s” with the rest beings somewhat ropey… I guess along with the aforementioned “Home Wrecker”, “Straight Shooter” and “The Price You Pay” are among the best numbers. I ‘m curious why Meadows and Robinson are not giving Brandt and DiMino a call for some reunion shows, as they all seem to be “active” these days… eh?!
