Hydrogyn is another one female-fronted band that was formed in 2004. Since then, they release a new album almost every two years. So, this time of the year has come and Hydrogyn are presenting their fourth release. The frontwoman, Julie, who has both the looks and the voice, is adding extra points to the band… like it or not.
They are blending modern/alternative rock, with hard rock/melodic metal and the more straight rockin’ moments of Evanescene and Lacuna Coil along with various pop-metal elements, they wanna deliver something hard, melodic and fresh at the same time. Are they doing it successfully? Hmm, not quite sure… well, you see there’s some good moments here and there, but overall, I think they must focus more on the alternative with modern touches… pop-metal side than try to sound rather hard n’ heavy at times, cuz simply they don’t have it. Songs like: “Something to Say”, “Forbidden Kind”, “I Don’t Know How”, “Roseline’s Song” & “Alone” are very good indeed while the other ones sound kind of cheesy and obsolete. They have to find the right balance on their songwriting without adding features they might like but don’t fit their style eventually… so as to release something actually good the next time.
