In a time period when the female-fronted acts are way more than the mushrooms on a mountain side, there are a few which separate themselves from the others due to their musical character, their enchanting melodies and most certainly their determination not to follow but present something more personal. Thus, here we deal with enkElination, (enkeli means “Angel” in Finnish) a newcomer female-fronted band from the UK, which was formed in 2011.

The “weird” thing is that the band was formed by the Finnish singer Elina Siirala, when she moved to London to study. Elina has a classic music background and I think she could be considered as a lyrical-soprano. Shortly after, the guitarist Shadow joined Elina and he gave a more “metallic music direction” for the band. The band gave a few live shows in London before starting working on its debut as well.

“Tears of Lust” cannot be considered as a symphonic metal album. Even though it has a “connection” with symphonic music due to Elina’s voice, the music follows another path. The band plays a more atmospheric, melodic metal with lots of gothic elements. Putting them under the “symphonic metal” tag won’t be so representative of their music identity. Anyhow, apart from all those “music tags” there’s the actual music outcome which plays the major role... and enkElination are doing great on this part too. Even though it’s too early, I can easily say that enkElination is a newcomer with potential to go further.

First of all, the singer, Elina, has the whole package! She has a fantastic voice and the looks! What more can you ask from a female signer, huh?!! Secondly, the songwriting is very mature & efficient. Thirdly, the production is quite good, especially for an independent release such as this. Some little things will surely be taken care of in the future, so there’s nothing to bitch about actually.

I do not think that this band will stay without a label for too long. They do need bigger push and support in order to unfold their full potential and focus on their music. Closing, “Tears of Lust” is a fabulous debut album which needs your attention, time & money more than the majority of the albums of the vastly advertised female-fronted bands, which mostly rip-off or repeat themselves. Let’s hope enkElination won’t get lost along the way and follow the right path which leads to success…
