Burning Point
The Ignitor
Scarlet Records
2012
Three years after “Empyre”, Burning Point are back with their fifth studio work under a new label this time. Those who are aware of those Finnish metalers know what to expect of… even though the latest two releases didn’t satisfy the band’s fans a lot.
“The Ignitor” does combine elements from the whole band’s back catalogue… some times more power metal, others heavier with a handful of epic metal features here and there. The band actually plays well and although they cannot escape the clichés of this music style… they present something nice here but not exceptional. The album was recorded at HelGate and Reindeer Horns Studios and mastered at Tico Tico Studios (Sonata Arctica, Sentenced) by Ahti Kortelainen… but I’m not overall satisfied as I think they could have done it better… nevertheless, the production is good enough. The cover artwork which is actually good & rather dark was designed by Felipe Machado Franco (Blind Guardian, Rhapsody of Fire, Iron Savior).
I like the heavy metal oriented songs here more than the power metal ones… as they have some fine melodies generally. Those who seek out every heavy/power metal release and seem to fancy this kind of music a lot will not be displeased…
