The Black Heart Rebellion
Har Nevo
ConSouling Sounds
2013
I wasn’t aware of this band till I received the promo for their newest work entitled “Har Nevo”. I didn’t know what to expect so as the first moments from “Avraham” started playing, I thought that this was going to be something interesting to revel in.
The Black Heart Rebellion are coming from Belgium and their music can be defined as a mystical, tribal, ambient, atmospheric, dark, post-rock & psychedelic journey. At times it is like listening to a pagan ritual/orgy deep in the woods. The band’s approach is smooth, gloomy and “eccentric” with metal touches, clean vocals along with a few more intense and “pissed-off/harsh” ones. No death growls or screams here. The production is very good, clear and full. Various instruments which were used on the song arrangements are creating “dark atmospheres” that leave you with a feeling that something’s about to happen anytime now. The album was recorded & mixed by Koen Gisen (An pierle en white velvet, Kiss The Anus Of A Black Cat, The Bony King of Nowhere, Flying Horseman) and mastered by Uwe Teichert (Elektropolis, Solar Quest, Daan, Ultrasonic 7, etc.).
“Har Nevo” is not your everyday easy-listening album though. You will have to be in a “certain mood” so as to appreciate it more and actually “follow its way deep into the forest”. I would prefer the vocals lines to be more appealing every now & then, but that’s something they can fix in their next albums... I think. This is the band’s second release so it’s time to expand their audience and reach people who are truly fond of this dark, spiritual, ambient, atmospheric and pagan music.
