Jizzy combines the best of the hard rock and glam metal genres, with a good dose of psychedelic and blues rock. Powered by the heavy drums, distorted electric guitar riffs and Jizzy’s aggressive vocals. The best way to simply sum them up is AC/DC and Guns N’ Roses meets Led Zeppelin. So this is the type of music I was bought up on, and my gateway into the rock and metal subculture. Listening to “All You Need is Doul” brings me right back to my teenage years. So this music really does feel like home.
When I was invited to this show, I was excited to meet a real life rock-metal personality. And, thankfully, Jizzy hasn’t changed; he looks like he’s just stepped out of 80s. I wouldn’t be surprised if I saw a time machine or Dorian Grey picture stored back stage somewhere.
Emperors Of The Wasteland and Doomsday Outlaw were perfect warm-up acts, literally! With Doomsday’s explosive energy and crazy dancing, the crowd was pumped and moving. I was staggered by the energy they had, especially after five gigs in five days! This energy and stage presence really makes a show.
Emperors Of The Wasteland managed to combine high energy hard rock, with deep and dark lyrics. I don’t know about you, but that’s definitely my type of music! The band has a genuine raw quality to them, and showed true passion and commitment to their craft. Even though it was early and the room sparse, they still rocked-out hard and played with the same attitude and energy as if the room was packed.
Although it was quiet at first, it was packed by the time Jizzy Pearl hit the stage. Whilst they were getting the stage ready you could feel the anticipation in the air. And when he walked out on to that stage, all eyes were on him, all lips screamed out for him. People reached toward him when he came to the front of the stage. You know you are a true rocker, when you get that reaction.
When I was taking photographs in the crowd, you could feel the electric buzz, feel the energy, and feel the excitement. Jizzy and the crowd fed off each other, their passion and excitement fuelled each other until the entire room was dancing, and singing. You can tell this is what he was born to do, when he shouted out “I feel f***ing alive with you people!” and the crowd erupted back with cheering.
With the re-birth of the 80s already set in, I say it’s the perfect time for a new rise of Jizzy Pearl, who hasn’t changed thankfully. His distinctive voice and attitude still ring loud and true in this new album as much as in the 80s/90s. The catchy guitar riffs and heavy drums accentuate his high-energy, electric and vibrant vocals.
Jizzy Pearl is a one-of-a-kind old school classic rocker legend, who can smash out a Hard Rock classic still, but rock a Power Ballard. His witty and gritty dark-humour can also be seen in his literally works, like “Unhappy Endings”.
It was incredible to meet, interview (and get a photograph with of course!) a real life rock legend. He has lived so many adventures, travelled so many places and achieved fame. But still stays true to himself, and continues to put his heart and soul into his music. And his fans gave him their heart and soul right back. Even decades later, he is still defining rock music, and living the dream!
