Music & Politics - Worlds Apart

GR LogoI’ve always wondered why some artists & musicians get into politics and they try to blend arts (music, theater etc.) with politics in general. Well, some may argue that they both deal with the commons so… but come on, let’s be honest. The arts and especially music has nothing to do with politics and the majority of people that represent it. We’re talking about a politician system which is taking advantage of its voters, the mass – the people (call it whatever you like), by lying and fooling them in front of their eyes! What do arts and music in specific have to do with that shitty “rule system”?!

Music is about emotions, feelings and it represents people’s higher nature. That’s why in Ancient Hellas (Greece) music was a gift from the Gods and it was given to the people by the 9 Muses that have the “god of light” Apollo (Musagetes Phoebus) for their leader. Music took its name by the 9 Muses of the ancient Greek mythology. Music, at first, was also poetry, melody & dancing – they were meant as a one-piece of art. Hence, after that little introduction to the history of music (and arts), I think there’s no misunderstanding why I do not want to mix music and politics together at all and I consider them to be totally different things.

It’s really bad to see some great musicians be the “front guys” for any politician just to make them look friendlier to the people. I do think that it’s unethical too in a way, cuz the musicians who act like that simply do not believe in what they do and they mostly do it for more fame, money and recognition from the “politician elite”. Personally, I do not care about politics and I do not believe that any of those pleasant and well-presented politicians are here to offer anything to anyone; instead they try to satisfy their personal vanity and of course they want money and glory!

The more musicians I see acting like clowns to support a politician the more pity I feel about those people who have offered such great music moments but they are nowhere near the “art” they used to create once upon a time. After all, their latest tracks & albums show the downhill that they have taken… the politics thing is just the icing on the cake.

How much diverse and way more beautiful our lives and the world would be if it was “reigned” by true musicians – true lovers of the arts… wonder that!

PS1: Is “Justice” really “blind” as it should be?!! Ha, you bet! It looks more & more like the “Lady Justice” on Metallica’s cover for “And Justice for All”!!! Talking of which, the new samples are truly remarkable, so I will say more about the new album in a while…

PS2: GR’s Model Spotlight for November is the hot & sexy Melissa Lori. Check out her interview and pics here.

PS3: This month’s editorial is dedicated to Aleah Stanbridge (Tress Of Eternity), who passed away a few months ago. Aleah was a gifted vocalist & songwriter. Her last album with Trees Of Eternity is a wonderful atmospheric journey into melancholy… May She Rest In Peace…
