In the 10th year of their existence, auspiciously, Triopshere, can easily be characterized as a metal force “on the rise”, which is gaining more publicity with every new album. Following the dogma of “quality over quantity”, this is their third studio album in a decade.
So what happened during those 4 years between their previous album, “The Road Less Travelled” and the new one? Well, Triosphere have matured, they have become better and they’ve progressed. The power metal, heavy metal, melodic metal, prog metal blending with touches of symphonic metal is still very enchanting and quite technical on the whole. Ida’s vocals (and bass lines) are magnificent, Marius is in top shape (composing and producing), Ørjan’s drumming is great and (rhythm) guitarist T.O. Byberg is stable as usual. A last-minute line-up change on the band’s camp, is the drummer Kenneth Tårneby (ex-Cold Response, ex-Hellhaven). Marius and Ida have also taken care of the album’s production… while the mixing and the mastering have been done by the renowned Jens Bogren (Paradise Lost, Katatonia, Opeth, etc.). Needless to say, the production is exceptional in every part!
There are also a bunch of guest appearances on the new album. Specifically, we have the guitarist Simone Mularoni (DGM, Empyrios, Lalu etc.) on “The Sentinel”, the guitarist Jorn Viggo Lofstad (Pagan’s Mind) on “Relentless”, Chris Pettersen (Strings, Orchestration) on tracks 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, 12 and Espen Warankov Godo (Lumsk) on mellotron, Hammond & piano on tracks 4, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12.
As you most possibly have guessed, there’s a music variety on the album while the heavy, power and prog character does not cease for a sec. Tracks such as “My Fortress”, “Steal Away the Light”, “Breathless”, “Departure”, “The Heart’s Dominion”, “As I Call”, “The Sphere”, “Remedy”, along with the acoustic & lyrical slow-tempo “Virgin Ground” make this album impressive and complete above all. “The Heart of the Matter” will enthuse the fans of the genre, as it’s not only Triosphere’s best album to date but one of the top prog power metal albums for 2014…
