The Livesays is the personal vehicle of a Billy Livesay, a guitar player, songwriter and singer, whose biggest accomplishment is having played in a band with a member of the E Street band member apparently. He wastes some time in his press blurb, with the usual name dropping and endorsement’s list. I reckon he must have been doing this for quite some time, cause he’s pretty good, but then again, he must be getting past his prime, since if he hasn’t really made it by this point, he’s unlikely to ever do, but it doesn’t seem to phaze him off much.

He along with his three other band members, who have similarly inconspicuous cv’s, with the odd bigger artist entry here and there, churn out a bit of smooth poppy blues rock that’s hard to exactly pinpoint, as it seems to be drawing influences from all over the place, but could be compared with Eddie Money, Benny Mardones, heck even a calmer John Waite… you get the picture… obviously a bit of Springsteen’s Jersey charm too..

On its thirteen tracks “Hold On… Life is Calling” doesn’t hold any big surprises, but at least it’s smooth enough, with a consistent quality. Livesay is an adequate player and not a bad singer, but without some big hook, he can’t take it any further than as far as it can go. He never had a big hit and I doubt he’ll really do in the future, but it’s always great to listen to artists who follow their muse and don’t really try too hard to break away from their own niche, because most of the times the results are not any good. Worth your attention if you like soft rock.
