The new fourth studio album by the UK extreme metalers Sylosis will cause divided reactions by both the press and the fans. Assuredly, it’s of a great importance to have, especially these times, a major label to support you and promote your new album worldwide.

So what does Sylosis bring on the metal table these days? More or less we’ve heard such things – even in a better way – but that cannot be the critical point for such an album. After all, we’re not looking for anything innovative, especially in our time, but for new music works which can take the listeners aback by their songwriting, the sound and the members’ performances. Yeap I also know that this “modern” thing is something that the old fans can’t stand while the younger ones fancy it entirely. That’s the generation metal gap or what?! Hehe!

Anyhow, Sylosis are half good, meaning that they have the extremeness, the brutality and the aggressiveness with the melodic parts needed for such modern death, thrash, extreme, metalcore releases. They do have a great, tight and heavy production too. This time the album was produced by the band’s mastermind Josh Middleton with the help of engineer Scott Atkins and it was mastered by TesseracT’s guitarist Acle Kahney.

The older metalheads won’t find them that good due to the modern sound, the already “recycled” music themes/ideas and the lack of music character that most of those modern acts have in general. Moreover if the album was a bit shorter – you see almost 60 minutes for such music is too much – it could have been better on the whole. Certainly, there are good moments on “Dormant Heart”, but that brutal/extreme thing needs something else to be more captivating and appealing nowadays cuz everyone’s doing or trying to do the same thing in a way…
