Sunflower Dead
It’s Time to Get Weird
Bloody Bat Records
2015
Sunflower Dead returns with their sophomore release, almost three years after their self-titled debut album. This is the first time that I come across this band and I have to say that I was kinda confused when I saw the cover artwork. I didn’t really know what I was going to listen to. As you see, the cover artwork has a clear reference on the KISS cover “Rock and Roll Over”. Now around 39 years later, Sunflower Dead present their own weird vision of the well-known KISS cover.
Musically, Sunflower Dead blend modern metal, nu-metal with alternative, hard rock & metal elements altogether. They are a modern-day act and a few extreme metal bits can be found on their tracks. Not enough to turn away the extreme metal haters. On the homonymous track, well-known Korn vocalist, Jonathan Davis, is also participating. The production is powerful & tight. The album was produced by Dave Fortman (Evanescence, Slipknot, Godsmack) and Mikey Doling (Gemini Syndrome).
Sunflower Dead combine their music with a weird show. It’s like the guys have come out of a Rob Zombie movie, such as “House of 1000 Corpses” – I do think that Captain Spaulding deserves a place in the band’s line-up! So do not miss them if they happen to play near you. No matter if you’re into this kind of music or not, you’re gonna enjoy their show. Closing, I should say that those who were into nu-metal back in the beginning of the millennium and they still fancy modem metal music should better check out “It’s Time to Get Weird”.
