Stone Sour
House of Gold & Bones Part 2
Roadrunner Records
2013
I was afraid that something like this might happen. Well, to be honest, I was pretty sure about it. You see even though Stone Sour haven’t released a superb album on the whole to go crazy, they have always had several strong tunes on their releases as well as some more mediocre and a few poor. That’s the case, if we want to be fair, with all the Stone Sour albums.
Their previous work “HoG&BP1” was the band’s finest moment to date... meaning that it contains lots of enjoyable tracks. But as soon as I heard that there was “inspiration” all over the place and instead of one album they were going to release two cuz’ they had written many songs, I was certain that one of the two works was not going to be at the same level. As the part 1 is the strong album… then what does that make the second part? Aside from the first-rate production I do not find anything fancy or “inspired” here.
On the contrary, “House of Gold & Bones Part 2” is a bland, insipid and tasteless album. And to my surprise, there’s not a single track to stand out. They could have used a bunch of the songs contained on this CD as bonus tracks on various album editions of part 1. Can’t you see the irony here? While “HoG&BP1” is the band’s most complete work, “HoG&BP2” is their weakest one. Unluckily, this album ain’t passable nor mediocre… it’s way worse and intolerable at long last. It’s like many B-sides or leftovers have been placed in one album…
