Well, best known as the original vocalist and founding member of the platinum rock band Ratt, Stephen Pearcy these days is busy between figuring out what’s going on with that band of misspelled rodents, but that hasn’t kept him from completing a fourth solo album and writing in some solo shows…
While keeping in line with his previous three (and a half) post millennial solo efforts, Pearcy’s fourth tries to sound as contemporary as it’s grungy hard and sleazy rock allows it to be, with mostly the production owning up to that, other than anything else – but also the more bluesy and in places laid back sound also being a contributing factor. Pearcy’s voice reminiscent of a melodic Mustaine crossed with a beefier Vince Neil and Tesla’s Jeff Keith, is a bit of an acquired taste; it seems to have served him well and he has the platinum sales of Ratt to back him up, too.
While not as dirty and naughty as Ratt, there’s a good diversity on the album and quite a few standout tracks like “I Can’t Take It” and “Want Too Much” among others. Ratt fans should probably love it, while rockers all around should find it at least enjoyable.
