Hailing from Italy, the novice Sleeping Romance (ex-Hybrid Resolution) are trying to find their place in the sun. Certainly, that ain’t easy but it is worth fighting for so as to better with time.

Led by the pretty Federica Lanna with the ethereal voice (she is a mezzo-soprano), the guys have been clearly influenced by: Nightwish, Within Temptation, Evanescence & Epica among others. Their music is rather symphonic, with power metal doses and a few gothic passages. Going by the book, they do not stray at any point and they do not tend to tryout or add any news elements. The orchestrations are very well-done, even though this is not a live orchestra what you hear. The album was recorded by the guitarist Federico Truzzi at the Lemonhead Studio and it was mastered by Roberto Priori (Los Angeles, Danger Zone, Vision Divine) at Pristudio. Even though the production is solid, heavy & full, I kinda feel that the final outcome is a tad over-compressed for my liking. The frequency compression shouldn’t have been over the top.

Sleeping Romance are delivering a fine album with good moments and a very good female signer. Nonetheless, they do not add anything new to the genre neither they can compete the major names of this style for now. In my opinion, they need to add new elements to their music and be a little bold, if they wanna stand out from the numerous sympo-power metal bands of our time.
