Skunk Anansie
Anarchytecture

“Anarchytecture” is the third album after the band’s reunion in 2009. It does have all the characteristic Skunk elements even though it might be a bit more pop & mainstream at places. But wait a minute? Weren’t Skunk Anansie a mainstream alternative pop-rock band that was addressing the big masses? They were never a “rocking” act even though some may think so.
Nonetheless, there’s nothing wrong with “Anarchytecture”. It’s one of the same but with a few more refined edges and a desperate try to reach a bigger audience and enter the charts, which will do one way or another. Skin is an exceptional vocalist that makes the flat and banal tracks sound somewhat better at the end. Had it not been for her the album would have sounded way more uninteresting. She is the driving force behind Skunk Anansie. The songwriting is kinda tiresome. Just like a re-heated food. You know what the exact flavor is and it’s not that tasty cuz you have tasted it several times before. The production is excellent though. The album was produced by Tom Dalgety (Royal Blood, Killing Joke, Band of Skulls) at RAK Studios in London, mixed by Dalgety & Jeremy Wheatley and by the well-known Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound in New York.
Bottom line, “Anarchytecture” is a so-so album which will probably satisfy the majority of the band’s fans, even though some may not take it so positively. Either way, give it a go and see if it can satisfy your needs.
