Sinners Moon is a Slovakian sextet that one of their guitarist, started putting together some five years ago as a side project to his then band, he later left to concentrate on them, they faced a fair deal of lineup problems until they somewhat stabilized last year, with the addition of a new female singer. Their style is a predictable mixture of female vocals with extreme male vocals over a canvas of symphonic/goth metal, that however is quite dynamic and riffy as much as it is keyboard laden. Tristania and Sirenia comparisons, would be fair, in the more melodic moments, but they have also a touch of Epica (earlier), After Forever, and Nightwish about them.
The bad vocal joke is that Tony Kakko (Sonata Arctica) is a guest singer for “My Servant” a rather catchy number, but one that could have done without his contributions... other than that, other noteworthy songs include “Buried” for which Nightwish might demand some money – since it’s “Storytime” in disguise… with a slightly twist. “Sinners Moon” is another good moment and – the title track has also some good minutes, but feels a bit too ambitious at eleven minutes, it doesn’t fully justify. On the other hand, Nightwish started off just like this all those years ago and are still going… So who knows? Their singer Simona, is far from being bad and I guess if they get a fuller, better production they should be able to go on to greater things.
