Shameless
Beautiful Disaster
RSR Music
2013
Right – Shameless were a band that originally existed for a couple of years at the tail end of the 80s but really folded after their vocalist left them. They reformed again towards the end of the 90s with the help of Eric Singer (now with Kiss) who helped them get a load of supports and record their debut “Backstreet Anthems”. Since then, they’ve recorded – including “Beautiful Disaster” – another five albums often featuring a host of guest musician and have done some touring.
On this latest album Alexx Michael is accompanied by the famed Kerri Kelli on guitars from Alice Cooper’s band, the LA drummer Tod T Burr, BC & Michael Thomas (Tuff) on guitars, plus Stevie Rachelle (Tuff), Steve Summers (Pretty Boy Floyd) and Cherie Currie (formerly of The Runaways) on shared vocal duties. Throughout the album they go for a Sunset Strip-house, bar cover band groove and they manage to pull it off rather well. They actually do mostly originals of which the vitriolic opener “Greed is God” with both Steve is kinda cool, the sleazier “You’re not Cinderella” (Rachelle) is alright… the Currie flavored ballad “You’re not Comin’ Home” is rather tastefully done and then there are also a couple of nice covers “Life’s a Gas” (T-Rex/Currie) and Aliec Cooper’s “I’m Eighteen” by Rachelle with a choir of little children… hmm…
All in all ,the band, tries to capitalize on the guests and it could... I guess. The album ain,t some masterpiece but neither is it a piece of shit, so well… without the “connections” and the push, or ever with them, I guess hardly a lot of ppl will give a shit… I mean, in a way, it,s like trying to “$#$#” with a borrowed “$#$%” without the big names, that would not be available to tour that easily – big shows would not be easy to book, so it comes as no surprise that Shameless are not some household name.
Would they? Could they? Should they? I dunno! Enjoy what there is… on the record...
