Seamount is a retro loving band that formed back in 2007 as an idea of guitarist Tim Schmidt in Wurzburg, Phil Swanson, an American singer (who’s been in 10 odd bands or so) introduced himself as a potential candidate for the position of singer and the two produced “NTODRM” an acronym for “New Torch of Doom Rock Music” this was made available as a free download and some label picked it and pressed it as a double vinyl. They did tour and played the various doom festivals with various bands and since then have been releasing albums on an almost annual or biannual cycle and doing small tours around those, only breaking this tradition for this year’s “Nitro Jesus”.

In all reality the band is more rock than purely doom oriented with their riffing being predominantly slow, but not incredibly heavy. Think in part something like the younger cousin of The Obsessed, a lamer version of Grand Magus crossed with a not such a bad Pagan Altar and a tiny bit of Pentagram. I’ll be honest, in saying that I don’t quite like Swanson’s timbre and color, and that I find the album quite “weak”, as I like my doom or heavy rock more epic and lingering than this. Musically, they’re not bad with Schmidt being quite a competent guitarist that comes up with interesting riffs and melodies, but… I’d urge fans of The Obsessed to mostly check them out and they might just like them. They hardly did anything for me.
