Scorpion Child
Acid Roulette
Nuclear Blast
2016
There’s a ton of “new” bands the behemoth of record companies from the North is trying to “break” and for a lot of them seem to find the sophomore “albums” quite hard to come up with the goods on, since most seem to have put all their “better material” on the debut and inspiration is apparently not something you can always rely on to just be there.
Texas five piece, Scorpion Child, are one such case. If you could imagine a male fronted and quite heavier version of Babe Ruth along with a scoup of Irish Coffee and Bang, all brought up to today but not as brilliant as the aforementioned… with songs that try hard to attempt to the “stoner” crowd, for better or worse and with riffs that are hard to tell apart, it sort of gets boring quite fast. The sameness is setting in too fast and while the odd song like “Twilight Coven” shows some promise, the whole thing sounds like something fans of Clutch would dig… but I can hardly stand them…
Decent, but I like the original 70s bands this whole scene is basing itself on, much better.
