2014
Purple Hill Witch is a stoner rock/doom/sludge metal band from Oslo Norway. This is the band’s debut full-length release after the EP “Alchemy” which was released in 2013.
There’s really not much one can say about this record. If you like the music of Pentagram and Sleep, you’ll like “Purple Hill Witch” as well. But don’t expect anything more. I mean that, don’t expect one thing more. Doom and gloom guitars, slow tempo drum rhythms, high-pitched vocals, all brought together with a grainy 70’s-sounding production sound. The truth is that the guitar riffs are as ominous as they should be and the rhythm section makes you softly head-bang. In other words this is a decent record, but it sounds like something someone else has released some years back. I mean I wouldn’t be surprised if someone told me that all 7 tracks in “Purple Hill Witch” were actually B-sides by Pentagram, Sleep or even Electric Wizard.
This album, fine as it may be, offers nothing to an already overloaded genre.
