Primordial is a band which got much more recognition than they deserved concerning their career. Surely, they are a good band and have released some damn fine albums but they were never a groundbreaking act neither were they as innovative as some used to say. Moreover, Averill’s vocals are somewhat flat and of limited ability in a way. They may be “cultish” or “weird” but that’s another story.

Thus, what’s “Where Greater Men Have Fallen” all about? An okay album in the band’s known style without any changes or surprises at all. They play safe, they do things by the book and that’s how they keep their die-hard fans happy. This album does not feature a “great Viking” epic track… but that won’t matter a bit as the band’s fans have already embraced it. I know that the long tracks along with the “raw” and “retro” rather early 90s production (of low intensity) can be a bit tiresome at some points… and that’s exactly how I felt after having listened to half of the tracks!

Do not get me wrong but when an album greatly lacks memorable melodies it can really be tedious after a while. Some may like its “rawness”; I guess everyone has their own perspective. “Where Greater Men Have Fallen” is a solid album but nothing more than that…
