Listening to this album made me wonder when we will get over that neo-retro paranoia of our time and stop all this “copy-paste” things taken from the bands which defined the rock/metal sound during the 70s.
Monolith is a German newcomer which was formed in 2010 and they started recording their debut album in 2013. I could simply write: “Another Black Sabbath cone”… and end it like that. But I’m gonna say a couple of other things as well. Just when I thought that Orchid were the No1 Back Sabbath clone, then Monolith pops up! Swell!!! Certainly Orchid is the most “celebrated” one! Monolith won’t ever come close to their fame even though they sound more Sabbath than them… and their singer sounds as a damn Ozzy clone! Is he a mimic or what?! Amazing achievement huh?!
The guys play well and I’m sure they have fun. They could easily have been a cover band and have fun on stage along with their friends. But why would they have to release an album with “their own music? The great thing is what some press guys say: “if you like Black Sabbath then you will enjoy Monolith” and stuff like that! Are you serious? Why should I enjoy a Sabbath clone if I like Sabbath? I’d enjoy Sabbath themselves and not a friggin’ clone! Is it so hard to comprehend?! If this band calls it a day tomorrow, none will care for they are a damn clone & people do not give a shit about clones. Better call this thing a “tribute band” and give some live shows to the clubs around your area and have fun… above all stop wasting my time with meaningless releases…
