Mogwai is one of the first bands which has helped post-rock be what it is and make it more popular to the masses. That’s one fact. Another fact is that with their eighth full-length album they do not add anything new to the genre; on the contrary, they make it sound so predictable, monotonous and boring overall. It’s true that post-rock is becoming a bit outdated or obsolete in a way due to lack of progression. Something needs to be changed soon or it won’t take much till people get sick of it.

Then again the “casio-keyboard” on the album is absolutely ridiculous! It’s like a ten-year old kid trying to make atmospheric music with his newly bought plastic keyboard. What’s wrong with songwriting nowadays? Where has the friggin inspiration of the artists gone?! Moreover, the running play is about 58 minutes! Only a masochist would have listened to it for almost an hour in a row!

Hence, what can we say about the production? It’s good, it could have easily been made on a laptop but it wasn’t. Sometimes when they go more electric it’s obvious that they have worked on it. But I still cannot leave that “casio-keyboard” aside!!! Absolutely rib-tickling and ludicrous! Definitely, this album is somewhat poor at every level. This is one of those times that I hate being a reviewer! I should get a boredom allowance for these occasions!
