Midnight Sin
Sex First
Bakerteam Records
2014
It will soon be 10 years since Crashdïet’s amazing & classic debut album. Damn how fast time flies! Even though Crashdïet had the potential to become the leader act in hard rock, sleaze metal, glam metal, hair metal (whatever you like) movement of the new millennium, they didn’t manage to do so due of Dave’s loss. But hey what do all these things have to do with this album review? It’s not every day that you come across debut albums like “Rest in Sleaze”, like or not. So do not get over-enthused with “Sex First”…
These Italians are making their first steps in the genre… and I bet they wish they could be half as good as Crashdïet but they ain’t; especially on the songwriting part. Surely the 80s influences by top acts like Posion, Motely Crue, Bon Jovi and so on are there… but they do not get anywhere close to the genius of the abovementioned groups. Admittedly, it’s been a while since I listened to such an inharmonic, bland and tasteless “sleaze” ballad like “You Piss Me Off”. It’s so wannabe like the “80s sleaze ballads” that makes you wanna puke! But wait, there’s more! There’s not only one of those “tedious ballads” but three of them! Hooray!!! Something is totally out of order here! However, the sound is good but not very tight & full.
Midnight Sin may be young but they need much more practice and experience to actually come up with something listenable at first. Possibly they were rushing to release their debut but listening to the chicks around and to your friends saying “how super & great you are” ain’t gonna take you anywhere, especially nowadays. The guys have a long long way ahead of them if they actually wanna give it a shot. You do not become a “Rock Star” overnight… so start rehearsing now and if you cannot come up with any fine song ideas get some external help too…
