Mf Ruckus, short for Mutha Fuckin Rukus, is a rock n metal sort of carnival of misfits, featuring relative unknowns from around Denver and Chicago.

They go for an amalgam of sounds that’s hard to describe, but while they toss a couple of names as influences, which are not necessarily fully applicable – when it comes to the overall sound of the band. They are a simple rock ‘n roll band with the occasional punk and modern metal influence, but there’s also a bit of “Irish” in them, in the form of underlying rhythms that seems to be inspired by Thin Lizzy, but end up sounding quite different, as the band seems more akin to bands like Valient Thorr. They quote also “The Supersuckers, Dio, Iron Maiden, Rose Tattoo, Murphy’s Law” as influences, but apart from some hints here and there, especially Maiden and Dio, don’t seem to be a good description for the band’s style.

Their style is fairly easy to get into, as the underlying melodies are simple enough, but I tend to hate the modernity of the vocal delivery. Obviously they’re free to experiment with their music as much as they want, but the end result sounds a little too much reliant on making a big messy fuss.

Songs like “Thieves of Thunder”, “Hall of Champions”, “Gasoline (For My Party Machine)” or the hilariously titled “Jesus Hellraiser Christ” are good fun, but the homogeneity, between the tracks, doesn’t help them much, sure enough the attitude and infectious energy of the band helps, but it doesn’t elevate them above mediocrity.
