Mausoleum Gate - Mausoleum Gate

Mausoleum Gate is a Finnish band which was formed in 2008. They released their debut EP “Gateways for the Wicked” in 2010. After 3 years, in 2013, the band released the “Obsessed by Metal” 7''. Before the release of their debut full-length album, in 2014, the band released the compilation CD “Gateways for the Wicked and Obsessed by Metal Sessions”, which includes all previous releases in a CD format.

Musically, Mausoleum Gate seem to have a thing for NWOBHM music of the late 70s & early 80s. The band’s looks, the sound and the songwriting are all vastly influenced by the NWOBHM acts of that time. I can surely say that their sound has a tad of evilness or mysticism to be more precise. The production is like the ones of that era… a bit “weak” overall but “cult” for the majority of the NWOBHM fans.

I do not know how the younger generation sees such releases but to the elders’ ears they sound rather nostalgic but somehow obsolete. This specific era ain’t coming back again and no new band which copies the old style can get close to the real thing. Having said that I must also say that I had a fine time listening to this album even though it’s not my thing and it mostly urged me to play some old NWOBHM vinyl discs. Mausoleum Gate are OK but they need to be more original and add various other metal influences to their music too…
