Lyfthrasyr
The Engineered Flesh
Alive Vertrieb AG
2013
Back after 6 years with a new studio album but only one year away from the stage, Lyfthrasyr are unleashing their extreme cyber fury to the masses. Aggreash’s new companion on drums now is Nefastus (ex-Belphegor, Drauggard, Luna Field, Misvita, etc.). They both seem uncompromising and the result is “The Engineered Flesh”.
Embellishing their psychotic insanity with extreme, atmospheric, industrial, gothic, cyber, electronic, postmodern black metal… Lyfthrasyr sound like Dimmu Borgir and Deathstars’ little bastard at times! Fast rhythms, evil growls, atmospheric passages, electronic sounds and industrial bits are blended all together in order to create this malicious extreme orgy. The punchy & vigorous sound delivered by Fredrik Nordstrom (Dark Tranquillity, At the Gates, In Flames, Arch Enemy, etc.) and Mika Jussila (Amorphis, Avantasia, Chidren of Bodom, Ensiferum, etc.), who did the mastering, is making the whole outcome a bit more rampageous!
The album features tracks for all kinds of tastes. I do think that tracks like: “The New Era of Immortality”, “Technological Singularity” & “Evolution” where the goth, electro, melodic, atmospheric, cyber metal essence prevails, are better overall. If only the vocals weren’t so evil/harsh & there was a shortage of blastbeats, this album could have definitely been appealing to a wider audience. “The Engineered Flesh” is a very idiosyncratic, twisted, grotesquely strange album… which will surely find its way among those freaks who seek something diverse, extreme & intense. Do try to proceed if you’re not afraid of the filthy, industrial, cyber & shadowy places… where wicked noises are approaching from deep down the dungeon…
