Two years ago in “Waters Rising” we heard for the first time the new singer of Lillian Axe, Derrick Lefevre, a very promising singer that needed some time in order to become a part of the new Lillian Axe soul and body. Thus said… in 2009 Lillian Axe is back with the same line-up of “Waters Rising” presenting us their new musical amalgam. Leaving behind the ghosts of the hair metal period – so far behind – Steve Blaze, who is a very underrated songwriter and guitarist, is moving between “Psychoschizophrenia” (IMO the best L.A. album to date) and “Waters Rising” era musically and lyrically.

The album opens with the fantastic instrumental “Cocoon” and then for about an hour and 15 minutes, you will be taken away by the band’s music… Up-tempo rockers like “Megaslofade”, mid-tempo moody tunes such as “Cold Day In Hell” and melancholic slow-tempo songs as “Within Your Reach” will change your inner mood far too many times. That’s why I like this album so much… it’s not an easy one… it needs many spins in order to get into it… in order for the secrets to be revealed… Not easy hit-like songs here dudes… just great rock/metal music with too many influences that are filtered up by Steve’s magical touch… If you’re looking for an album that will speak to your soul after you spend hours listening to it, then “SDOPE” will give you a nice surprise. But if you’re into fast food-like tunes of our time then stay away from musical gems like this one, ‘cause you will get so confused that it will ruin your days! I’m really glad that this album has a moody production and the whole result is too gloomy for the summer… what an antithesis. Lillian Axe is one of those few bands that can still deliver qualitative music and they understand that music is art… so they offer art… a very good album… by such an overlooked band…
