L’ira del Baccano is an Italian band which was formed in 2006 after changing their name from Lossin ‘O’ Frequencies. Having released their debut album “Si Non Sedes Is - Live MMVII” in 2007, which as the name suggests was recorded live, and the spilt album with Watermelon Time in 2010, it was just about time for their sophomore album which was recorded in studio this time. The album was recorded, mixed and mastered by Matteo Gabbianelli (Fomento, My Darkest Side, Shores of Null) and produced by the band’s mastermind & guitarist Alessandro “Drughito” Santori. The production is full, heavy and clear. Both Matteo and Alessandro have done a hell of a job!

After the required bio outline, let’s move to the band’s music, which is the thing that matters the most. L’ira del Baccano, as its name declares, is not your average easy-going band. Their music is an amalgam of heavy rock, hard rock, doom metal, stoner, progressive, space rock, atmospheric & psychedelia. It’s instrumental too! How about that?! Assuredly, influences from acts such as Black Sabbath, Hawkwind, Pink Floyd, Rush & Ozric Tentacles among others can be found on their music. But the good thing is that these guys have given their personal touch to their music and they do not just “copy-paste” bands as the abovementioned ones. They are technical and progressive too… but these two words have become somewhat like a “bubblegum” in our time as every musician/band that plays more than three chords, is immediately called progy and technical by the “paid media”. This thing “sells” today, so they have overused and “abused” the whole meaning of those two words.

Nonetheless, “Terra 42” is a well-crafted & stimulating heavy rock album with doses of spacy psychedelia along with atmospheric touches and it definitely deserves your time and full devotion. The three phases – Phase I “The Infinite Improbability Drive Part 1-2-3”, Phase II “Sussurri... Nel Bosco di Diana Part 1&2” & Phase III “Volcano x13”… will travel you to “strange” music-space-scapes along the way. I know that 58 minutes of instrumental music may seem “weird” to some people but there’s always the “try before you buy” thing through the band’s bandcamp page. Just bear in mind that after those 3 phases are over, it’s more likely to play them again without further ado… and that’s a positive aspect about “Terra 42”. It just doesn’t bore the listener like the majority of albums of the same genre do. This is where the good acts separate themselves from the mediocre and the bad ones… and L’ira del Baccano is a bloody good band on its prime…
