Three years after their debut release, the Bergen-based post-metalers Krakow are back with their sophomore album. “diin” is sort of a natural music continuation from where the band left off with its debut but with additional improvements on some parts. Their experimental, dark, post-metal, sludge with atmospheric and extreme elements music may sound rather captivating as a musical amalgamation but it’s not getting them anywhere in the end.

The long, quite dull instrumental parts, the generic songwriting and the mediocre vocals - when needed – did not make this release an interesting one neither the final outcome is as I hoped it to be. It’s neither poor, nor great… I think it misses out something… probably that element which makes an album quite appealing eventually.

The production is very good & a bit murky as the album was recorded at Duper Studio with producer Iver Sandøy (from Trinacria, Emmerhoff & The Melancholy Baies, Manngard etc.). Overall, it’s hard to keep your interest up for pretty long as it’s not as strong as it should be on the songwriting part. The ideas are there but that’s not enough to make a bunch of songs sound somewhat pleasing. They need to sort out some things so as to come up with a more decent album next time…
