Killocde is a rock newcomer that’s coming from New York. They were formed in 2008 & they have released two EPs, “To Die For” in (late) 2008 and “Taking it All” in 2010, so far. Now their debut album is out again, under a label this time, with a couple of bonus tracks.
Were I to describe the band’s music, I would put elements of southern rock, hard rock, modern rock, rock & roll, groove rock, alternative rock along with a few post-grunge touches in a blender and I would serve it on the roxxx. This is Killcode in a few words. Influences from Lynyrd Skynyrd, Black Label Society, Shinedown, Stone Sour, Velvet Revolver are all over the place but there’s more than that. They guys have guts, inspiration & character. If you are sorta confused by the description above then there’s nothing better to do than watch & listen to the band’s music video for the exceptional “Still Here”. There’s a nice musical diversity throughout the album… as you can hear from southern rock (“Still Here”), modern stuff (“Tied”) and straight hard rock & roll (“Bad Mother”) up to alternative/post-grunge (“Time”). Undoubtedly, the two ballads “The Wrong Side” & “Trust” (which also features vocalist Angelina DelCarmen from Charetta), are the band’s most radio-friendly & “commercial” moments. Wonderful and very melodic tunes at large. The album’s production is full and as big as it takes.
In a world where music albums come out with the speed of light, it’s hard for any new band to get noticed and take its chances. Definitely, we all must support good music and new & budding bands for they deserve it and they need it, especially at their first steps. The newest edition of the album also features two bonus tracks “6am Again” & “Devil Song”, both taken from their first two EPs. They are both very good but I guess those who have heard the EPs know that already. Killcode can definitely go further. If they stay true to their rock principles & keep bettering up then I do not see why they won’t make it….
