Joe Satriani is one of those musicians/composers/guitarists that took the whole instrumental guitar rock sound a step further and made it more accessible to people who weren’t musicians themselves. Thus, when it comes to Joe any kind of intro is ultimately unnecessary.

“Unstoppable Momentum” is Joe’s 14th studio work and indeed Joe seems unstoppable. He records, tours and plays like crazy for over 25 years! Apart from that, he has played with some very important rock artists throughout the years and has given a different feel to the guitar sound. The music quality of the album is enormous! The performances, the production… everything. Alongside with Joe we have Chris Chaney (Jane’s Addiction, Alanis Morissette, Slash etc.) on bass, Mike Keneally (Frank Zappa, Dweezil, Steve Vai, Ulver, Dethklok etc.) on keys & Vincent Colaiuta (Frank Zappa, Sting, Chick Corea, Jeff Beck, Herbie Hancock, Megadeth etc.) on drums. Mike Fraser (AC/DC, Metallica, Aerosmith, Elvis Costello, Chickenfoot etc.) is the man responsible for the album’s crystal clear production.

I hear some people bitchin’ about Joe, saying that has lost his touch and he keeps doing the same things over & over again. Well, this approach may not be absolutely wrong but what exactly do you expect Joe to do? He defined his own sound back in the late 80s and since then he has been enjoying his success. What else can an artist do? How many artists have achieved such a thing? He has a specific kind of playing that’s presented in every new album. It’s more honest to stay on his own safe waters than “experiment” and try to present something that he’s not. It’s true that some of this 00s albums are not as strong as his past works but “Unstoppable Momentum” could be considered as his most stirring release in excess of 15 years. You know why? Cuz’ it has some great melodies on top of the amazing performances… so simple, it’s Joe Satriani… nothin’ more or less…
