Impera
Legacy of Life
Escape Music
2012
Impera is a project that was put up together by the drummer J.K Impera, who has worked with Bruce Kulick & Graham Bonnet among others in the past. Bringing the renowned guitarist Tommy Denander (Toto, Paul Stanley, Alice Cooper, Radioactive, AOR, Robin Beck, Sayit etc), the great vocalist Matti Alfonzetti (Jagged Edge, Rd White & Blues, Bam Bam Boys, Damned Nation, Road to Ruin etc.) and the known bassist Mats Vassfjord (Vinnie Vincent, John Corabi, Grand Design etc.) on board he actually created an impressive line-up… that’s something no one can deny. Surely, by the names appearing on this album, you don’t have to be a wizard so as to guess the music style of this band.
Melodic rock with hard rock and AOR elements… is what they offer here… mostly bringing Radioactive on mind. The production was done by Lars Chriss of Lion’s Share fame and it is quite rockin’ & crispy. It reminded me of the album productions Tommy used to deliver in his projects.
Awkwardly, Impera leaves much to be desired. The songs here are OK… but too generic without actually containing any tune that roxxx da house. Fine rockin’ tunes, perfectly performed with amazing vocals… but that’s all. “Legacy of Life” is missing the big hit or the catchy song that will give the album an extra boost. It’s more than a decent release… so do not take it the wrong way…
