Holy Knights
Between Daylight and Pain
Scarlet Records
2012
How hard is it to return from a 10-year absence from the scene? Is everything as it used to be almost a decade ago? Well, Holy Knights, it seems, had left things undone… and as you know no matter how much time may pass… when you have to do what you gotta do… in the end, you will achieve it. Having been active with other projects/bands such as: Thy Majestie, Trinakrius and Crimsonwind, still they’ve never forgotten of their first love which is Holy Knights.
The album starts ideally with a symphonic, power/epic tune that makes a splash. Choir vocals, heavy guitars, powerful rhythms, strings, piano melodies & various orchestral passages are enough to take all the symphonic, power metal freaks by storm. Apparitions from Rhapsody, Thy Majestie & Fairyland are all over the place... how couldn’t they be in the very end? The production is as thick as a brick, very dynamic and heavy… making you wanna raise the volume above maximum. Very good ideas all over and nice orchestrations, generally.
The only thing that can make the non sympho-power metal fans, not enjoy this album totally, is the resemblances with the aforementioned bands and the lack of originality. Being a power metal fan for many years… was a profound reason that I fended off this kind of music over the years… without ever stopping listening to it of course… I still enjoy it… but I think it has stayed in the same safe waters for too long. Anyhow, none can tell that this album is not well-played and greatly produced… so if you do fancy this music style, you will be delighted listening to this album…
