Hellyeah are Vinnie Paul’s project after the demise of Pantera and the abrupt end of Damageplan, following his brother’s murder, where he continues to play average groove metal along with Mudvayne’s vocalist Chad Gray, former Nothingface guitarist Tom Maxwell, bass player Kyle Sanders, guitarist Christian Brady.

With albums released at a clockwork rate, but not always high on inspiration, this sounds like a mix of Korn, Disturbed and Mudvayne, with a bit edgier guitars, which especially on this album are a bit more biting (probably having a new bassist and guitarist step in recently did rejuvenate the band a bit) and drumming typical for VP. Not the most terrible album, but in general, the style is so limited in its confines that it’s quite difficult to do something that will not sound “like everything else”.

“Scratch a Lie” is my pick off, from the groovier shit of the bunch, while “Human”, “Blood Plague” and “Love Falls” all more or less exhibit the effect and sound like a “hurt- ballad like” but not too different to tell apart.

Lastly, “Grave” feels like the more consistent and conceit effort at a proper song, but it’s too one sided, again the limitations of the genre kicking in and keeping it from becoming really interesting.

The better Hellyeah album in a while, for these guys, but what’s with the “!” stylizations?! Are you secret fans of P!nk? Ha…
