Gloryhammer is a power metal band that has been conceived by one of them lads in Alestorm and looks like a cosplay clad bunch of power metallers that gravitate between you might have guessed it, Alestorm without that badly synthesized bagpipe/accordion sound and Rhapsody (of Fire or not is of little consequence) with somewhat better English but a lesser singer and a more generic and less clear production. It’s over the top and ridiculous, cheesy as cheddar but there are far more ridiculous and worse bands out there… although they must be few in number. At least their singer can pretain to sing rather well. Now the whole multiverse in Angus business is a bit confusing, as I called the greater area home for no less than seven long years and I never saw much happening in the ways of metal or extra terrestrial activities by weirdly clad cosplayers. This is a by the numbers continuation of their debut with maybe “Heroes (of Dundee)” and “Rise of the Chaos Wizards” being decent examples of 4/4 power metal, done OK. In the same style Lost Horizon was galaxies apart from these guys but sadly they are no longer with Daniel Heinman, choosing to sing in a band that sounds like Linking Park… oh well…
Gloryhammer could hone their production and maybe drop the “Warhammer 4K” themed cosplay themes, if they’d like to be taken more seriously by more people than the people frequenting Games Workshop stores and the like… Nerdy Power Metallers… you‘re in for a treat but I could probably not give much of a shit. Really. The second CD here contains retitled and slightly rearranged version of the orchestrations of the original album in instrumental form… oh well… what the hell…
