Glenn Hughes… what can one say about the man that’s not already known. He’s been there, done it multiple times (solo, Deep Purple, Phenomena, with JLT, Black Country Communion – and more, you name it), probably still has the T-shirts and they fit him too. A great vocalist and bassist, and following a bit of a break from his “solo” stuff, with his last effort having been out some long eight years ago, the tasty “First, Underground, Nuclear Kitchen” aka “FUNK”, he’s back in the groove.

Funnily, the first song’s title, which is “Heavy” (ahem a rather heavy, by Glenn standards jam) sets the tone for a lot of the albums tracks, in what probably is the most heavy sounding of his solo albums, without however being a “weight” that could drag the whole album out, since “The Voice of Rock” can’t really be kept down and funk-ily rises above, ever so often above some gargantuan riffing – ie “Flow”, but there are funky ie “Landmines” and smooth “Let in Shine”, “Steady”, “When I Fall” numbers in here too, in an album that pretty much checks all boxes. It could once more proving that Glenn’s music and voice remain today almost as resonant as they did two and three decades ago. Indulge.
