Energema are a power metal band from Colombia that mostly follows the melodic metal with a touch of neoclassical. Their composer, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Nicolas Waldo is the main driving force behind the band and an established guitarist, with releases on Lion Music as well as endorsements by Ibanez Guitars Japan and previously Dean Guitars U.S.A.
Combining Waldo’s love for guitar and power metal, he decided to introduce a band run in parallel with vocalist Alejandro Pinzon (who’s quite good), Andres Parada on rhythm guitars and Daniel Pinzon on bass. While the production mix/suffers a bit as it’s something they did themselves and probably on a limited budget and with a drum machine – that at least is not entirely “obvious” as in the case of some other bands, a lot of the songs are pleasantly surprising and energetic.
Songs like “Eternity” and “Gog and Magog” are quite nice and the dramatic quasi ballad, “Deep Magic from the Dawn of Time” is also pretty breathtaking. If you like Narnia, Malmsteen, Impelliterri, Helloween and the like, these South American’s are a name too look out for.
